"We have joined hands and accomplished something together," Maestro Lorin Maazel expressed. In this recording of the pre-performance conversation led by David Ginder of WETA, the leading classical radio station of the nation's capital, Maestro Maazel tells about his creation of the Castleton Festival. "We are offering young people something truly spectacular...It is a meritocracy, it is about art. This is noticed and felt by everyone...mid-way through the second season, I have fallen in love with it...and...it will wing its way with pride into the future." Hear Maestro Maazel describe: "Castleton - where the present meets the future."
You may have heard Maestro Maazel conduct concerts at the New York Philharmonic, or elsewhere in the world, or at the Castleton Festival, but now you have the special delight of hearing his own voice, experiencing Maestro Maazel describe his creation of the Castleton Festival on his 600-acre estate in Castleton, Virginia and what he dreams of accomplishing through the Festival. David Ginder reiterates the observation of Judith LeClair (principal bassoon, New York Philharmonic) that an orchestra needs leadership. Maestro Maazel provides that leadership to young musicians from all over the world in the Castleton Festival Orchestra, and he comments: The orchestra is "awesome in terms of technical ability...it is an amazing orchestra."
Hear all Lorin Maazel said about the gathering of 200 young singers, musicians, conducting fellows, and other artistic staff, and his vision of the Castleton Festival, recorded before the Castleton Festival All-American Orchestral Concert on July 16th.
